The site is a battle-axe block on Balmoral slopes which has views to North and South Head. On its northern side is a remnant bushland reserve. In response to this opportunity, the living spaces and bedrooms address the expanse of view to the Heads and the central stair addresses the vista to the bushland.
Much more so than most projects, the building envelope has been defined by the neighbours’ views lines, council setback controls and steep driveway gradients to access the site.
To retain the best views for the living level, the living spaces were moved to the upper floor – almost level with the street. The front door is accessed by an elevated walkway and the parking is bought down into the site and located on the next level down.
