The tendency to orient the house square-on to the expected view is replaced by a scheme that twists the living space to harness two distinct viewing experiences: the long north-eastern view to North Head and Grotto Point and the more intimate view experience to Rocky Point, Balmoral Beach.
This geometry sets up a rhythm of densely landscaped courtyard spaces in the side setbacks that affords privacy with neighbours and landscape vignettes to entertain the eye on the descent from the entry level to the living level.
The palette of natural materials is kept simple and warm with the use of sandstone, red-iron-bark and copper to reference the site’s position adjacent to the Reserve.
