As there was no external views from this site in Mosman, a north-facing courtyard courtyard was introduced to afford internal vistas and spatial relief from neighbouring walls.
Mosman is well known for views of the harbour, however, this site had no notable views. The architectural response was to focus on the possibilities that the architecture and the landscape can offer its residents from within the site. Based around a courtyard and a series of ponds each apartment responds to a more intimate relationship between inside and outside spaces.
Joinery and cross views through the courtyard are used to define space, while materials, finishes, colour and texture heighten the experience throughout.
Highly efficient planning allowed the project to extend the permissible planning controls whilst also resulting in a design with no objections from the 120 neighbours notified. The project was on-sold post Development Approval by the developer and built by local contractor.
